Shona sculptor Ishmael Chitiyo portrait photo

Sculptor

“When the sun is shining, it will bloom. When the sun goes down, the flowers close up.”

So not a sunflower with its big head of seeds that turns to track the sun – instead, Ishmael is thinking of a plant which opens the precious flowers towards the sun during the day but closes up the petals at night for safety.

This exceptional sculpture is the largest piece from Ishmael we have currently available. It makes a great impact from afar, due to Ishmael’s clever use of the contrasting black and white finishes. It is elegant, with organic flowing curves. Truly, it would make a super centrepiece for a garden, particularly given the truly 360° nature of the sculpture. Wonderful!

Springstone is a hard variety of serpentine stone. It is suitable for outdoor display, as it is dense and impermeable and has very few flaws that might be exacerbated by frost action. The black areas have been sanded, waxed and polished with clear wax; the white parts have been finished with a fine rasp.

This sculpture is in Zimbabwe and will be shipped from there; P&P at  buyer’s expense.
