“Where the lines going upwards form a circle [in the centre], they bond the two sides together. This means something that bonds the relationship together.”
The two loops at the top represent two people, and their relationship is held together by the loop that unites them.
Willard is one of Shona Sculpture Gallery’s most popular contemporary Zimbabwean sculptors. He lives in the rural north of Zimbabwe. Luckily for him, this lovely colourful variety of serpentine is found very close to his home.
Avocado serpentine, named for its green and yellow colouring, is hard and impermeable. As a result, it is naturally frost-resistant; you can display it both indoors and outdoors.
