Lovemore is well known for his exquisite sculptures of women. He sculpts the features of her face with a few deft lines, and captures the drape of the cloth with confidence and precision.
Lovemore has used a single solid piece of springstone, and the different colours come from different finishing techniques. He has sanded and then waxed the face and body with clear wax to bring out the natural colour of the stone. By contrast, the cloth has only been sanded.
Springstone is the local Zimbabwean name for a hard variety of serpentine stone. Since it is impermeable, it is suitable for outdoor display, even in temperate climates. It would grace any garden or large interior space, and would be a perfect focal point.
